akademie der autodidakten
I heard what you just said and it reminds me of something. The things we experience, the stories we can tell and the things we still want to invent, all of that is unique ‒ but there are also some things we have in common. We? As a society, as post-migrants and people of color, as young people who want to help shape their future on this planet?
How can we understand each other? That we’re part of a bigger picture is something we sometimes only realize afterwards. What is our role in that and from whose perspective is the story being told? Shouldn’t we all be the protagonists of our own narratives?
However, some perspectives keep being heard while others keep being ignored ‒ in the information and entertainment media, in museums, textbooks, history and children’s books, in political and social discourses… What are the narratives that disempower us and which ones can we use to empower ourselves?
The young protagonists from akademie der autodidakten have come together with theatre maker Laia R. Cañéguez to collect stories and reprocess them. The result is a play developed by the participants: we juggle with different perspectives and fine-tune the tension. We take a close look inside and then a chilling look at everything from the outside. Polyphonic, multi-angular, multidimensional. Because a society of many also needs the stories of many. So let’s listen to one another.
