“Peace is a global duty!” Barack Obama said a while ago. But what does peace ‒ and war ‒ actually mean? What does the word “global” mean in times of online chats with friends or family in Ramallah, Bogota or Paris? And what does responsibility towards other people mean?
Every day there are new reports and images of overcrowded camps and sophisticated border surveillance systems. There are reality soaps with B-list celebrities on camera dressed up in survival fashion embarking on the routes of refugees. The, a refugee. Produced by whom, how, where, what?
Within the context of the performance Global Duty, a group of very diverse young protagonists follows up on these questions and their personal experiences, social circumstances, and political choices, using digital, cinematic, dramatic, and textual media: what kind of relationship do they themselves ‒ having grown up in Germany as the second and third generation of post-migrants ‒ have with terms such as refugee and homeland? What is their reaction towards issues such as global injustice and international community? And ‒ what are the possibilities to take action in order to change the situations we are dissatisfied with? Open processes and research takes place, all kinds of materials are exchanged and placed into new contexts. “Locally stable, globally unstable” ‒ that is how physics describe the state of space-time. We look forward to the change of coordinate systems and the outcome of the local and stable collaboration on 3 December at 8 pm!
