Jetzt bin ich hier

akademie der autodidakten

Now I’m here. In the here and now. But what are the alternatives for me in my present? And what am I actually going to do in the future? Am I happy? Am I alone or are there others who think like me? Can we join forces and effect change or would I really prefer to be somewhere else altogether?

Based on their own biographies, young adults take a look at our society and the roles the individual can play in it. In doing so, they reflect on their experiences in Germany.

They challenge the way they are perceived in mainstream society and the way they themselves perceive this society….

What is it like to live in a Europe where right-wing populism is on the rise and a new kind of patriotism is gaining ground? What is our stance on this? Do we build communities? What are the strategies post-migrants and people of colour can adopt to declare their solidarity?

In collaboration with the theatre maker Simone Dede Ayivi, the participants exchange views on their personal and the general status quo in order to pose the question, what kind of society they actually want to live in. They got started with interviews they conducted with one another. How can we occupy a space that isn’t ours in the first place? Can we imagine a world in which power relations are not already firmly established but constantly renegotiated?

Starting out as experts of their own lives, the participants use the means of theatre and performance to transform experiences, fears, and hopes; they try on alternative biographies and envision tomorrow. A tomorrow that begins right now!
