Joy! When was the last time we felt joy? Real, deep, unadulterated joy? In everyday life there is hardly any room for it. Too much gets in its way. But what does joy need in order to shine?

Discriminatory social structures prevent Black people and People of Colour from accessing material resources, security and happiness. We are shifting joy, into the centre – that is our act of resistance.

From mid-March to early June, a group of young BIPOC met, led by the performance artist Bishop Black, in order to experiment with different forms of artistic expressions, with contemporary dance, contact improvisation and acting. The central question was on how passion, joy and vitality can be reclaimed, since they are crucial for self-empowerment and liberation. re-searching joy, is the result of this search for one’s own stories and the collective moments of joy and is now being shared and presented on stage.
